A Conversation at Take Cover Books
A conversation about Taking Family History and Turning it into Historical Fiction.
I’m looking forward to this conversation with Lois Tuffin, Author and Community Champion, and an old friend. We’ll talk about writing historical fiction inspired by true family events, and the joys of finding your voice in your fifties. I’m happy to share the steps I took to get my first novel in print and can’t wait to hear what others are interested in as well.
If you’re curious about my novel, No Secrets Among Sisters, or considering writing your own, please come out and join in the conversation!
And a special thank you to Sean and Andrew of Take Cover Books for hosting this event.
Bookapalooza
I’m excited to share that I’ll be represented at Bookapalooza, organized by the Arts Council Haliburton Highlands - a celebration of everything about books! I’ll be there with copies of my book, as well as my trusty sales associate (hint, it’s old and shiny and full of keys). I’d love to meet new readers, chat about turning family history into historical fiction, and share some of the original materials that created the inspiration for my novel.
Author Event at Picton Library
Inviting readers in Prince Edward County! I’ll be talking with Nancy Griffin (of Women, Worth & Wellness) about my novel, No Secrets Among Sisters, the themes of women in politics and equal representation, and writing historical fiction inspired by actual family figures and events. The timing is particularly appropriate given my themes of suffrage. It was on January 28, 1916 that the first province (Manitoba) granted women the vote - an event featured in my novel. I will have books there for sale in case you’d like to take home a signed copy.
There’s no cost and everyone is welcome. The library is hosting this discussion in the Janikowski Room at the Picton Branch, a building that, appropriately, dates back to 1907. Special thanks to Barbara and Liz for hosting.
Winter Makers’ Market
Kawartha Lakes Arts Council is hosting this annual sale, featuring members in a variety of artistic disciplines. I’ll have copies of No Secrets Among Sisters to sell and sign. If you already have a copy of my book, feel free to pop by. I’d love to hear what you think.
This sale is 10 am - 4 pm each of the two days. Come and support your local arts community!

Anyone who tours the parliament buildings has heard about this fire. Come to the event to find out more about why it features in my book! Books will be available for purchase and to be signed by the author - me!
